Medicaid spending for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment in Betsy Layne soars 2478% in 2024

Data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Medicaid Provider Spending database show that in 2024, Medicaid providers in Betsy Layne billed $903,681 for services within the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment category. This represents a 2478% rise compared to 2023, when the total billed for the same services was $35,053.

Medicaid, a public health insurance initiative funded jointly by federal and state governments and managed by individual states, serves low-income residents, families, children, seniors and people with disabilities, making it one of the country’s largest health coverage channels.

Taxpayers fund Medicaid, so patterns in localized claim amounts can highlight the way community resources are distributed through the public health care system.

The Medicaid “Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment” classification covers particular services determined by the type of care provided and standardized across HCPCS and CPT code groups. For this report, each billing code was placed in one service category by using uniform code prefixes and ranges. This method helps evaluate corresponding services collectively, prevents service double counts, and maintains precise year-to-year category comparisons.

Despite increases in several areas, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment topped all Betsy Layne Medicaid payment categories by total amount paid in 2024.

Across Kentucky, that same category ranked third for total Medicaid payments in 2024.

The category’s spending, while dispersed citywide, was primarily concentrated in a small number of ZIP codes. ZIP code 41605 accounted for $903,680 in 2024, representing 100% of all relevant Medicaid payments in Betsy Layne for the year.
